Summary

When the largest retail developer in Rhode Island first purchased the property formerly housing the state’s youth correctional facility, a place for a new restaurant was immediately apparent.

The only salvageable building was the location which was originally the chapel for the facility. Despite its abandonment in the early 1970s the building’s dramatic architectural style made it the perfect location for an upscale eatery which would be the anchor for the planned lifestyle center.

Studio JBD and JGA were selected to assist in the restoration and transformation of the facility. Several additions along with a new state of the art kitchen and event space in the lower level were developed. The design, while celebrating the buildings rich history and distinctive style, also focused on the use of very large-scale furniture, fixtures and accessories. The grand dimensions of the original building and its creative restoration blended beautifully with the new décor creating one of the areas most popular and stylish dining destinations.
